What happend with the classic V-sign?

Something has happened. The V-sign, or the victory sign, is changing. This is something I have noticed over the last 6-7 years and the change can be blamed on the youth. From what started as a Churchill V-sign where the back of the hand is facing the signer has now changed into a V-sign where the palm is facing the signer. In Australia and UK the latter sign is an insult, probably more insulting than the fuck-off finger sign (middle finger...you know...).

Among Swedish youngsters the V-sign is an important part of a new, well I don't know what to call it...photo pose? While posing on photo those darn V-signs are always up nowadays. It is as if they cannot allow themselves to pose on photos without having those two fingers raised. And it is always the back-of-hand-facing-signer sign. It is not about victory, it is not about insulting. The V-sign has simply developed into a sign of coolness. "Yeah I am cool, I can pose on your picture man, hence my V-sign!"

It used to annoy me and I used to point out quickly when the kids did that, that it actually is wrong. The V-sign should be done with the palm facing the signer in order to evade misunderstandings and confusement. No effect. Those darn kids still do it wrong. And I am wondering if this is actually changing and spreading rapidly around the world since I have seen kids, and young adults, doing the same thing. Not in the UK, though. Yet. So is the V-sign for victory gone? Poor Churchill, he is probably shaking in his grave right now...
